Mid-Season Championships

STUART, Iowa (June 13) – Rookie Ben Hoesing of Boone garnered his first-ever IMCA Modified feature win at Stuart Speedway Sunday night, saving the first victory for Mid-Season Championship night.
Also winning mid-season titles were Maynard Davis III (Runnells), IMCA Stock Car; Bill Bonnett (Knoxville), IMCA Hobby Stock; Mike Morrill (Altoona), Dwarf Car; Jeromy Christenson (Greenfield), Front-Wheel Drive; and the team of Howell & Bushnell (Madrid), Two-Person Cruiser.
Hoesing ran among a quartet of cars, which also included three Pruitts – Terry, Chris and Josh – in the early going. However, both Terry Pruitt and Chris Pruitt pulled off the track with problems, leaving Hoesing to outdistance Josh Pruitt at the checkers. Ron Bash was third, Joe College fourth and John Mylen fifth.
College had become the only driver of the night to accept the JJAM Challenge, opting to give up his original starting position for the back of the pack. Had he been able to come all the way to the win, his money would have doubled.
Davis III held off defending champion Dave Baugh to win the stock car feature, with Curt Ganoe, Jerry McElderry and Bob Daniels rounding out the top five.
Bonnett score the hobby stock win over Jamie Schirm, Josh Reynolds, Jacob Murray and Nyle Godwin. Reynolds’ engine was claimed by Cory Adams afterwards and Reynolds agreed to sell.
Morrill led virtually the whole distance to win the dwarf main over Fred Schimmels, Bobby Egeland, Randy Bryan and Shane Hunter.
The night’s action was punctuated by a pair of hard roll-overs. In the dwarf car main, Bob Thomas of Indianola flipped hard on the front chute and in the front wheel drive feature, Ryan Gustin of Panora went end-over-end over the turn one barrier. Neither driver was injured.
