STUART SPEEDWAY RESULTS (July 27)

By Bill Haglund

STUART, Iowa (July 27) – Vintage was good Sunday night at Stuart Speedway.   At least, that’s the way things worked out for Dave Farren of Des Moines.  Farren, pushing the age of 60 and driving a 19-year-old race car, won the IMCA Modified feature race, his first of the season at Stuart. Farren is no stranger to victory lane at the quarter-mile track as he’s won in several different divisions during a career stretching over more than 30 years.  Farren has led other features this year, but has not been able to hold on. At times, he was unable to hold the top spot. On others, including twice in recent weeks, his run ended when a drive shaft came out of his ageless race car, one he built at home in 1985.  Sunday, though, he stayed up front, held off the field after several restarts, and captured the 20-lap win over Rex Parkison, Terry Pruitt, Josh Gilman and Ben Hoesing.

Curt Ganoe led only one lap, but it was the one that counted as the IMCA Stock Car feature ended under the yellow-checkered following an accident on the final lap. Ganoe had made the pass of race-long leader Josh Day before the yellow flew. Day was second, followed by Jason Murray, Rick Houseman and Dave Baugh.

John Wetzel won his first IMCA Hobby Stock feature over Steve Jones, Jacob Murray, Bill Bonnett and John Allison, who claimed Bonnett’s engine afterward.

Fred Schimmels captured the dwarf car feature over Brian Miller, Rick Dennis, Mike Morrill and Randy Rudolf.

Thirteen-year-old Josh May won the front wheel drive feature over Jeromy Christensen, while the duo of Warner & Cook captured the two-person cruiser main.
