“Photo finish: Stanton gets nod over Baugh in Stuart Stock Cars”

            STUART, Iowa (Aug. 1) – In a photo finish that took judges several moments to decide, Eric Stanton of Hartford took the IMCA Stock Car feature race by inches over Dave Baugh of Jefferson, highlighting racing action Sunday at Stuart Speedway.   Both drivers had been chasing rookie stock car driver Bryan Trogdon of Bouton in the closing laps of the 15-lap feature event before Baugh got by to lead. On the last lap, Stanton went high in turn four, dove low and drove alongside Baugh as the two crossed the finish line virtually side-by-side.   In fact, so close was the finish, officials will further review video footage of the finish during the week to either uphold Sunday’s decision, or reverse the outcome.   Trogdon held on for third ahead of Jason Murray of Hartford and Jerry McElderry of Altoona.

            In the IMCA Modified 20-lap main event, Bobby Bowman of Winterset captured his first feature win of the season as he battled past Des Moines veteran Dave Farren, seeking his second straight win. Farren held on for second ahead of Ben Hoesing of Boone, Chris Pruitt of Dexter and Ron Bash of Stuart.

            Troy Hudson of Ankeny won the IMCA Hobby Stock feature, taking the 12-lap event ahead of John Wetzel (Winterset), Justin Maschke (Knoxville), Nyle Godwin (Redfield) and Bill Bonnett (Knoxville).

            Bobby Egeland of Jefferson won the 12-lap dwarf car feature, topping Mike Morrill (Altoona), Brian Miller (Grand Junction), Brent Detrick (Runnells) and Randy Bryan (Story City).

            Young Blake Miller of Des Moines beat Josh May of DeSoto to the stripe to win the front wheel drive feature, while the team of Howell & Bushnell from Madrid topped the two-person cruiser feature.
